Archaeology of the Viking Settlement of Iceland

Volunteer (expenses & travel provided) positions available.

 

Despite its name and location, Iceland is quite temperate.  Learn about this unique volcanic island and its Viking Age Settlers.  The Skagafjordur Archaeological Settlement Survey has spots for up to 5 Graduate Students and 2 Undergraduate students.  Archaeological field school or some archaeological experience necessary.  Academic credit can be arranged.  The archaeological field season will run from June 30 –Aug 8 2008.

Techniques: midden test pits, single context excavation, settlement pattern analysis, geoarchaeology,  & archaeological prospection (GPR, conductivity, & resistivity).
